Fat dissolving treatments* have been around for several years and involve injecting small, isolated pockets of stubborn fat with a product that breaks open the membrane of the fat cell and destroys it. The dissolver is a synthetic version of a natural chemical made by your body, which is used to break down and absorb digested fat in the intestines. Once the fat cell has been destroyed, the remnants are then cleaned up by the circulatory and lymphatic systems. The result is regarded as a permanent reduction of fat because the destroyed fat cells are unable to reform, and new ones will not be created.

This will vary for each person, be dependent on the size of the area being treated and the amount of dissolver being used. Most people should anticipate needing 3 to 4 treatments to achieve their ideal result and treatments are generally spaced at least 4 weeks apart to allow sufficient time for the body to reabsorb the destroyed fat cells.
It often takes 2 to 3 treatments to start seeing a person’s ‘ideal result’, however some people can be fortunate, and see a noticeable change following just a single treatment.
Swelling is the most obvious side effect of fat dissolver and must be anticipated. It commonly lasts 7 to 10 days, but usually resolves quickly after that. With each, repeat treatment, there should be fewer fat cells to destroy and therefore less swelling. Further side effects include numbness, as well as formation of hardness in the treatment area. These things are expected and do resolve over a few weeks.
Skin reactions are also common, and these can include pain and tenderness, bruising, skin redness, tingling and itching. These reactions will subside quickly and should not cause too much concern. An injectable anaesthetic is frequently used, making the treatment very comfortable.
More serious complications are very rare but can include infection, ulceration or a temporary asymmetrical smile. Allergic reaction, while not impossible, is considered to be very unlikely. Your Respectable Injectables practitioner will discuss all these risks with you, before any treatment is provided, as well as explain the things they will do, to significantly lessen the chance of any serious complications.
Respectable Injectables practitioners are always available in the days following your treatment to discuss any concerns, if you believe your side effects are troublesome or persistent.
Persons who have small, isolated and stubborn areas of fat, who do not want to consider surgery, and are happy to consider several treatments over a period, can consider this treatment.
Persons with large areas of fat, severe skin laxity in the treatment area, who don’t want to experience any ‘down time’ or want a quick result, may not be good candidates.
